Sky Tower shots

Just two nice (IMHO) shots of Sky Tower. One day I have to go to the top, but it has to be a completely cloudless day to enjoy the views fully…

One undirect view…

Sky Tower shot 1

and a very direct one…

Sky Tower shot 2

Whakapapa snowboarding

Awsome! All this trip was just amazing.

The first view of Mt Ruapehu. It looks a little strange in the middle of totally flat area.

Whakapapa Trip 1

Something for Lord of the Rings maniacs - the view of Mt Ngauruhoe which appeared in the movie as Mt Doom.

Whakapapa Trip 2

All those mountains are actually volcanos (some extinct and some still active) and all the area around them are fields covered with rocks thrown during eruption.

Whakapapa Trip 3

The first chair lift. Not as nice as those 6-people, foam padded lifts in Austria or Italy but it just works…

Whakapapa Trip 4

Another view of Mt Ngauruhoe. Looks just amazing.

Whakapapa Trip 5

A view toward the top which is somewhere there in the clouds.

Whakapapa Trip 6

One last look down.

Whakapapa Trip 7

p.s. OK, now it’s official.
Stap bindings are the worst crap in the world! I wasn’t eligible to say that before it used it but that weekend just confirmed what I suspected. This is the third kind of snowboard bindings I have ever used. At first I have used Burton Step-in binding,s then a Flow System set. Both of them were more comfortable and gave much more control and reliability then those shitty ones I have used during this weekend. That may be the matter of quality, adjustment and so on but the time that You have to spend sittting on the snow, freezing your ass of is just ridiculous. Strap bindings do not offer anything that would justify that shortagte.

Whakapapa, here we come!

Today we’re going for a ski weekend to Whakapapa Ski Area on Mt Ruapehu. For me it is actually going to be a snowboard weekend… Anyway, it seems like a lot of fun especially that Mt Ruapehu is New Zealand’s largest active volcano and the last eruption took place in 1996. I don’t belive to be lucky enough to see next eruption this weekend.

So, a lot of pictures to come…

Some guys seem to have too much time…

What the fuck?!

The last 15 hours were the worst time I have spent in New Zealand so far.
Within that time I have spent 4,5h standing on bus stops or traveling on the bus. Yesterday I have missed the last “proper” bus to the city. “No worries!” I thought… I got on www.maxx.co.nz, printed a new trip plan and took off for a bus stop recomended by the route planner - 0,5 km away. After half an hour, it was obvious that the bus listed by route planner will not come and it started to rain. After another 20 minutes it was obvious that the second bus is not coming as well and the rain got more serious. 10 minutes later some other bus came and I decided to take just to get anywhere closer to civilisation. Luckily it turned out to go to the city where I hoped to catch another bus home. So, altogether after 2,5 hours I got home. Cold and soaking wet. Thank You Richties (the buses that didn’t come). Nevertheless, I was quite happy to be finally home. It just turned out to be the beginning of fun.
I went to sleep around 22.30. The sound that woke me up was just incredible. I have never heard such a noise before - or it was just an effect of the fire alarm going of 3m from You in the middle of the night. What the fuck? Should I get out because the house is on fire? I got out to see what is going on and it turned out that the alarm just went off because of some problems with the installation. So, the probem with the installation didn’t solved itself. We simply had the alarm going off a few times more until 3 or 4am. So, altogether I get something like 1,5-2hours sleep.
In the morning I got up at 6am, got dressed and went to the bus stop. I have been there at 7am. 15 minutes before the bus was supposed to be there. And it didn’t come! Or maybe it was 30 minutes late, but that was already a time for another bus. Anyway, once again I’ve spent 2 hours on buses and bus stops. At least it didn’t rain. Well, not that much as the last night.

So, just to summerize. Living in Auckland without a car is really hard and can cost You a lot of health. Kiwi public transport and route planners can’t be treated seriously. Just as fire alarms…

iFolder - first approach

I just got iFolder running and I am really happy about it.
It looks quite nice, but makes sens only if You can make it accesible from internet - unfortunately I can’t right now. For our company it would be a perfect solution for providing clients with software updates. Much easier for clients to use and install and much easier for us to maintain then the software that we’re using now. Actually, looks like a good solution for a lot of problems like file transfer, sharing, backup and anything else that requires transoprting files from one place to another.
It would be nice if Google or someone like that offered free iFolder accounts. Otherwise, the whole iFolder idea won’t become useful for the “mass users”. Who will want to maintain his own private iFolder server, not mentioning how many people can do that. Since all the software (SimpleServer and iFolder Client) is Open Source, it wouldn’t require to much effort from Google to complement their offer with iFolder service.

Anyway, if You feel like giving it a try look here.
